SENIORS:  Don't forget after applying online to Universities, Colleges, Tech Schools, etc... to fill out a Transcript Request Form in the Guidance Office and give it to a counselor or Mrs. Smucker.  Your college application is NOT complete until we mail your transcript!  Your transcript will be mailed within 2 days of your request.   Please allow 10 weeks before all of the college process is completed.  Per your request, we will send your updated transcript which includes your 1st semester grades and credits earned.  For any student needing help with filling out applications online...Mrs. Hamsher is available throughout the afternoon to walk you through the process.  Please bring your social security number and a credit card if you plan on completing the application process at school!  Final Official Transcripts will be mailed to the college or university of your choice and to NCAA Clearinghouse after graduation.  Even though the college has received your final transcript in June... they may not have it processed into their system for a few weeks.  Please feel free to call the college and ask if it has been received, but not yet processed.  

PARENTS/SENIORS - LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS:  The Local Scholarship information that is listed on the Wayne County Community Foundation website should now be updated.  Seniors should have their resume' updated and their letters of recommendation(s) in process and available when applying.  They should get started on the WCCF scholarships that require online application!  The Local Scholarship packet of information will be handed out to all seniors on Thursday, February 15th at their 7:30 AM meeting at OHS in the new gym.   This leaves plenty of time to apply for the "LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS".  To prepare ahead of time, seniors should start asking teachers, employers, pastors, etc. for "Letters of Recommendation" and update any new information on his or her Resume.  Other random scholarships will trickle in  and will be added to this website periodically and on the morning announcements.  Those should list the amount of award, criteria and deadlines!  Also check with Universities and Colleges for scholarships and grants awarded through their institute and know the deadlines!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Guidance Office. (see above) 

GPA CONVERSION INFORMATION:  Many colleges ask for, or may want you to report your GPA on a 4.0 Scale.  Attached are links to help you with this process.  Go to: http://www.collegeboard.com/html/academicTracker-howtoconvert.html  or  www.gpacalculator.net  (This helps convert your GPA from a 5.00 to a 4.00 scale). 

NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE REMINDER!  Seniors planning on playing college sports need to check out the following requirements at the NCAA Clearinghouse Website.  Make sure you have the required Core Courses in high school to be qualified.  Talk with your coach, athletic director and counselor if you have further questions!

UPWARD BOUND:  Thinking about college?  Don't know how to get there? Upward Bound is a program which helps eligible students prepare for and then succeed in college.  Who is eligible?  Students who want to continue their education beyond high school and who have financial needs and/or are living with parents who do not have a bachelor's degree.  Ohio State ATI Upward Bound serves students at 4 high schools in the area.  For more information, OHS students can contact Mrs. Berry at the high school, or pick up a brochure in the Guidance Office.

Animation Career Review: "Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship":  This $1000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student interested in pursuing an animation related degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit AnimationCareerReview.com to find eligibility information along with an online application.  This is the seventh year we have offered this scholarship.  Deadline is June 1st, 2018.

Cleveland Institute of Art:  At CIA, they offer 15 majors in art and design, taught by highly accomplished practicing artists and designers in modern, well-equipped studio spaces, and possible internships for 80% of the upper class students. They are sponsoring a 2D3D National High School Art & Design Competition using 5 categories.  Awards range from $10,000 to $200. Watch for important deadlines. Congress of the United States/House of Representatives - Jim Renacci:  Congressman Renacci will be hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 14th at the Akron General Health & Wellness Center-Green Conference Room, 1940 Town Park Blvd, Uniontown, OH  44685, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.  This session will allow students and counselors the opportunity to speak with representatives from the five service academics.  The coordinator will go through the nomination process, offer tips for success, and provide information packets to all attendees.  If you have any questions regarding this process, please email Bryan Bowman at: bryan.bowman@mail.house.gov.

Denison University:  If you are planning to attend Denison, and major in math or science, you may apply for the Austin E. Knowlton Scholarship by applying to this college. This award can be up to $5000, and is renewable annually. 

Farm Credit Mid-America Scholarship:  College Scholarships will be awarded to the children and grandchildren of customers.  The $1500 scholarships will be awarded based on academic record, leadership qualities, and community involvement.  The scholarship deadline is the last day of January.    You can access the application online at: e-farmcredit.com (click on Community, then Scholarships).  

Fashion Schools: "Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship":  This $1000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit Fashion-Schools.org to find eligibility information along with an online application.  This is the 5th year we have offered this scholarship. go to:  Fashion-Schools.org for more application information. FBI - Future Agents In Training:  FAIT - Future Agents In Training is an academy hosted by the FBI - Cleveland Field Office that invites h.s. students to receive hands-on training.  This program works to educate and inform students about the mission of the FBI including criminal, cyber threats, terrorism, and admisnistrative functions.  Students learn from special agents, intelligence analysts, and a variety of professional staff about investigative tactics that include gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and solving cases.  This runs from June 19th - June 22nd, 2018.  More information about eligibility requirements, and a copy of the application to print out on the "Community Outreach" link at:  www.fbi.gov/cleveland.  Applications must be postmarked by January 31st, 2018.

University of Findlay:

Hiram College:  The Emerging Writers Nonfiction Contest: sponsored by Hiram's Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature.  The contest offers high-school sophomores and juniors the chance to expand their writing experiences beyond the high-school classroom and get a sense of how they might continue to develop their writing skills at the college level. This contest invites 11th & 12th graders to submit their strongest nonfiction writing for prises of $200, $100, and $50 by January 12th, 2018.  The Graphic Medicine Competition is also sponsored by Hiram's Center for Literature and Medicine.  The competition is part of a larger Graphic Medicine Series this year that explores the role that comics and graphic novels can play in the study and delivery of healthcare.  The center is sponsoring speakers and workshops on how to create graphic medicine naratives that will culminate in a graphic medicine competition.  The deadline for competition submissions is Thursday, March 1st, 2018 and prizes of $400, $250, and $100 will be awarded.  Flyers are in the O.H.S. Ohio Northern University: 

Ohio State University - Columbus:  The Delta Theta Sigma Scholarship Program is open to incoming male freshmen students for the fall semester, regardless of major at Ohio State.  Applications are now available in the OHS Guidance office with a Deadline of: March 20th.

Otterbein University:  New!  Aquarium Track  -  a new major in Zoo and Conservation Science is available at Otterbein!  The Aquarium Track is highly competitive admitting only 10-12 students per academic year.  Students wishing to major in the Zoo and Conservation Science programs aquarium track must be admitted to Otterbein as a pre-zoo and conservation major. William D. Squires Scholarship:  15 Scholarships are being offered to Ohio Seniors in the amount of $4,000 per year; Scholarships are renewable for up to $16,000; Applications will be accepted from February 15th - April 5th.  It is free to apply; Eligibility is based on Financial Need!  The EFC on your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) must be less than 7,000 to apply; You must know your Career Goal; Must be highly motivated & have good character; and, must show academic progress with a minimum of 3.20 cum GPA.  Applications are now available at: www.wmdsquiresfoundation.org.
